This time it's a study of :iconrbf-productions: cosplaying as Snake. Metal Gear has always been one of my favorite franchises, so of course drawing Snake is going to be a lot of fun! I do have to say though, getting the colors down for this image was really tough, so I'll keep practicing at that.

totally overlooked this! great Job Bro! :) just small feedback for future stuff, watch the edges bro, the outline for the arm is quite blurred, which leads me to believe you are using a soft brush to paint with?

Thanks dude! Yeah, I almost always use 0 hardness. I actually have been thinking about experimenting more with a chalky brush that has a fixed hardness, it just makes it harder to blend. Think that would be better? Sometimes though, I do use the blur tool for certain edges. I've been trying to listen to what Dave Rapoza was saying about blurring things that aren't in the focus of the image.

Yeah it will be harder to blend but I say be sure to use 100 hardness in your work, especially in the block in stage with a big brush. I only delve into the soft brush when I want to start cleaning things up. so chalk brush, or hard brush away my friend :D
experimentation gooood~ ;) try experimenting without using the opacity jitter but instead use the opacity bar at the top. works a charm sometimes over the opacity jitter. I found I may have started to develop repetitive strain injury when I was working with it, always pressing down hard using repeat strokes. using the opacity bar helped lesson the strain on my wrist a ton.

I think for using the blur tool, we'd need to study photography a bit and learn about depth of field and lenses, we can wing it for the most part but when we have the time, we should try to learn to paint them in ;) I've got some food for thought to share with you bro. check your notes
